On the hill of Trsat in Rijeka stands the Franciscan monastery with the Church of Our Lady of Trsat, a building complex that, together with its shrine, ranks among the city's landmarks. It offers visitors a church, cloisters and collections in a single complex.
The beginnings of construction go back to the 15th century. The present two-nave church arose from the Baroque transformation of the original single-nave building, and the bell tower and façade received their form at the last extension of the church in 1824. East of the entrance stretches the large 17th-century cloister with a water reservoir, decorated with a series of frescoes by Serafin Schoen. At the beginning of the 20th century a votive-gift chapel was built. The small cloister lies within the monastery enclosure. The monastery building itself has a Baroque structure, and it houses a rich library, an archive and a treasury, as well as a lavishly decorated summer refectory.
The complex is a protected cultural property and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-1151. It is located in Rijeka, in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.
