Vranjic is a settlement on a peninsula in the eastern part of the Kaštela Bay, north of Split, and administratively it belongs to the town of Solin in Split-Dalmatia County. A former islet, it is connected to the mainland by an earthen spit, so the sea can be seen from almost every one of its streets.
In Roman times the area was part of the port zone of ancient Salona. As a separate settlement, Vranjic is mentioned in sources from the 11th century. Today it is a typical vernacular settlement: the houses are densely packed, and narrow winding streets follow the shape of the terrain and the oval outline of the peninsula. This layout gives the place a distinct ambient value and makes it pleasant for a leisurely walk. The settlement is built on a land archaeological site, and around the whole peninsula extends a hydroarchaeological zone under the sea. Together they form a single whole, in which history can be seen both on land and beneath the surface of the sea.
The Vranjic peninsula is protected as a rural ensemble and as a land archaeological zone with a hydroarchaeological zone. It is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-6273.
