Komiža is a small town on the island of Vis in Croatia. It is situated on the western side of the island, in the deep Komiža Bay.
The town itself leans against the foot of the Hum hill range, which partly separates it from the rest of the island. This position, together with the lack of agricultural land, determined Komiža's orientation towards the sea and fishing.

It is certainly an interesting fact that the Californian city of San Pedro has more people from Komiža than there are in Komiža itself.
This is also worth mentioning. Komiža was the first Croatian place visited by a Pope. That happened in 1177, when Pope Alexander III took shelter from a storm on his way to Venice. On that occasion he consecrated the Church of St Nicholas and then continued on his way to Zadar.
Stiniva is the most attractive bay on the island, and a large number of yachtsmen visit it gladly during the summer season. It lies south of the local road that links the hamlet Podšpilje and Plisko Polje. Still, most guests arrive by boat here and enjoy swimming from an anchored vessel. The bay is about 600 metres long and about 100 metres wide at the entrance. It is attractive because of the high cliffs surrounding it on both sides. At the bottom of the bay there are several uninhabited fishermen's houses, which together with the bay are protected as a nature reserve.

The bay's interesting underwater world makes it attractive to divers.
