The Kotišina Botanical Garden is located within Biokovo Nature Park, and is situated on the cliffs above the village of Kotišina, which face the sea behind Makarska, at an altitude of 350 to 500 metres. The garden was founded by Dr. fra Jure Radić (1920-1990), a Franciscan friar and scientist, with the aim of better researching, protecting and preserving the plant population of Mount Biokovo over an area of 16.5 ha. Inside the garden there are around 300 plant taxa, from Mediterranean to mountain species, and some of them are medicinal. The garden is most active in spring and summer, when it is dotted with every colour you can imagine, which is also when it is most visited. Several walking trails for visitors have been laid out through the garden. In the village of Kotišina, near the entrance to the garden, are the walls of the Great Castle (Veliki kaštel), a building from the 17th century. Today the Kotišina Botanical Garden is cared for by staff of Biokovo Nature Park.
