Underwater Site West of Kozarica, Mljet

West of the village of Kozarica, on the northern side of the island of Mljet in Dubrovnik-Neretva County, at a depth of 45 meters, there is an underwater archaeological site. It is interesting to divers who are drawn by traces of ancient navigation in the Mljet Channel.

A surface survey found amphorae of the Africana Grande type, which can be dated to the 3rd and 4th centuries, as well as amphorae of other types that it was not possible to determine. They are not in one place, but scattered over sandy drifts on the rocky bottom. All data so far are based on a surface survey, and parts of the ship's structure have not been noticed. The find belongs to a group of underwater sites along the northern coast of Mljet, which confirm how important traffic along this sailing route was.

The site is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-7200.
