The town of Pag, in Zadar County, is a rare planned town of the Adriatic islands. For visitors it is interesting for the regular street grid in the center and the large square surrounded by a church and palaces.
Today's historic core has been built since 1443 according to a Renaissance orthogonal plan, in line with the principles of Mediterranean urbanism. The town was surrounded by walls and towers which were almost entirely demolished in the 19th century. At the crossing of the main streets a rectangular square arose with public buildings from the 15th century: the parish church from 1443, the unfinished bishop's court and the prince's palace. Several houses from the same century have been preserved, and most were built in the 16th and 17th centuries. Renaissance features mark the churches of the Annunciation, St. Francis and St. George. In the monastery of St. Margaret a community of Benedictine nuns still lives today.
The ensemble is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-5123.
