Maklavun Tumulus, Sošići

The Maklavun tumulus is a Bronze Age burial mound near the village of Sošići, in the municipality of Kanfanar in Istria County. For visitors it is interesting because it is the first domed tomb of the Mycenaean type, a tholos, found in that area.

Research has shown that the mound is 16 meters in diameter. On the western side the remains of the dromos, the entrance corridor, have been preserved. The tomb was used for several burials of members of a distinguished family. The accompanying finds, remains of ceramic vessels and a bronze awl, show that it was used from 1500 to 1200 BC.

The tumulus is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-604.
