Višnjan is an Istrian settlement in the municipality of Višnjan-Visignano, and it is interesting to visitors who like old Istrian squares and walls. The settlement probably arose on the site of a prehistoric hillfort, and Roman inscriptions testify that it was also inhabited in antiquity.
It is first mentioned in 1203, when it belonged to the bishop of Poreč, then it passed into the hands of the Counts of Gorizia and Pazin, and finally Venice. In the center is a square with the parish church of Sts. Quiricus and Julitta from the beginning of the 19th century, with Baroque-Neoclassical features, built on the site of an older church. Beside it are a Baroque administrative building from the 18th century, a late Renaissance town loggia and a cistern. On the eastern side a part of the walls with a town gate from the 17th century has been preserved. Outside the former walls, in the part from the 19th century, stands the Gothic chapel of St. Anthony Abbot from the 15th century.
The ensemble is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code RRI-0325-1973.
