Buzet is a town in Istria County, on top of a hill in the valley of the Mirna river. For visitors it is interesting because in its core continuity can be seen from the prehistoric hillfort and ancient Piquentum to Renaissance and Baroque palaces.
It was built on the site of a hillfort, and necropolises at the foot and below the northern rampart bear witness to life in the early Middle Ages. Under Venetian administration it became the seat of the Rašpor Captaincy. Starting in the 16th century, town gates (Vela and Mala), cisterns (Mala and the late Baroque Velika) and the Fontik appeared. In the 19th century the ramparts open toward a row of houses, on Lopar a promenade arises with Neoclassical buildings, and another, Šoto jorti, leads between the two gates. In the core are the parish church of the Assumption of Mary and the church of St. George.
