Zađe is an archaeological site near Baćina in the town of Ploče, in Dubrovnik-Neretva County. For visitors it is interesting because it bears witness to Roman life on the lower Neretva, on the edge of a fertile field between the hills of Vlačina and Gradina.
The site lies about two hundred meters northeast of the main road, a little north of the hamlet of Podmeđina-Tomaševići. The remains are those of an ancient economic complex, a villa rustica, plowed into cultivated soil. Most of the walls were dismantled and used for dry-stone boundaries, so the ashlars can be seen precisely in them. Two separate complexes can be recognized, about a hundred and fifty meters apart. In numerous places on the surface there are fragments of Roman roof tiles and ceramic vessels, among them amphorae and pithoi. The time of construction is placed in the 2nd century.
The site is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-5997.
Data: Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia (Ministry of Culture and Media), Open Licence; coordinates: DGU (centre of the settlement).
