Gradina - Pavića gradina Archaeological Site, Dragljane

Northwest of the hamlet of Podgradina in Dragljane, in the town of Vrgorac (Split-Dalmatia County), on the 421 m high rise of Gradina stands a prehistoric hillfort. It is interesting because it controlled the surrounding routes and small karst valleys, and beside it is a whole series of prehistoric mounds.

The plateau of the hillfort is about forty meters long, and on the southern, western and eastern sides it is encircled by a rampart about 8 to 10 m wide and about 80 to 100 m long. To the south are five prehistoric mounds; the largest has a diameter of about 40 m and a height of about 5 m. About ten graves can be seen on it, most likely medieval, and such graves are visible on three other mounds as well. About 250 m to the northwest, at the Pavića gradina site, there is another mound, with a diameter of about 30 m and a height of about 4 m. The mounds are connected with life at the hillfort and are dated to the Bronze and Iron Ages, from 2000 to 1500 BC.
