The Franciscan monastery is located in Živogošće, in the municipality of Podgora on the Makarska Riviera, in Split-Dalmatia County. Beside it stands the parish Church of the Holy Cross, and together they form an ensemble worth seeing along the way.
The monastery was built near a Roman villa rustica, and the remains of an early Christian basilica were found in its cloister. It has three wings which, together with the church, enclose the cloister. The west wing beside the church has two floors, and the south and east wings four, with windows in a regular rhythm. The church with its bell tower closes the complex on the north side, and was built in 1766. The bell tower was added on the south side, by a floor, and ends in a pyramid. The monastery holds a valuable library and several Baroque objects.
The complex is a protected cultural property. It is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-6605 as sacral and secular architectural heritage from the 18th century.
