The Budim hillfort is located on Kos, two kilometers south of Posedarje, along the shore of the Novigrad Sea, in Zadar County. It offers visitors a view of one of the largest and most complex prehistoric fortified settlements of this area.
The hillfort is a unique example of a prehistoric settlement in its size and system of fortification. Two transverse sickle-shaped ramparts divide the space into three terraces, which are encircled by a common rampart with an especially characteristic approach, 10 meters high and about 30 meters wide. Part of the rampart is built dry, part with mortar, which proves the long duration of the settlement, from the Iron Age to the Middle Ages. On the surface traces of dwellings can be made out, mostly on the third terrace, along with the remains of a church, and much movable material has been found, especially Liburnian pottery.
The hillfort is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-2989.
Data: Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia (Ministry of Culture and Media), Open Licence; coordinates: DGU (centre of the settlement).
