Roman Villa Rustica, Donje Polje

The Roman villa rustica is located not far from the church of St. Lawrence in Donje Polje, in the town of Šibenik, in Šibenik-Knin County. It is interesting to visitors as a reminder that even the inner parts of the hinterland had comfortable country estates in Roman times.

Only a smaller part of the building, probably a Roman villa rustica, has been excavated. Two rooms of the villa's bath section have been explored, remains of a hypocaust and part of a floor with a mosaic were uncovered. A brick with the stamp of the Pansiana factory was found, as well as a stele with an inscription mentioning a certain Raecius Eumolpus. Since only a small part has been explored, nothing more reliable can be said for now about the narrower purpose of the Roman structure. The time frame is from the 2nd to the 6th century.

The site is a protected cultural good and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code RST-0546-1971.
