Praputnjak is a settlement above the Bay of Bakar, in the area of the town of Bakar in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. It is interesting to visitors because it shows how one road reshaped village life and joined several hamlets into one settlement.
The place developed considerably in the 18th century, after the Caroline road was cut through between 1725 and 1732. Along it, homesteads took shape during the 18th and 19th centuries, and the previously separate, mostly clan-based hamlets merged into a settlement of a common name and form. The older part lies lower than the road, beside the arable area of Dolac. The farming nature of the place is confirmed by historical sources from the 15th and 16th centuries, and a special viticultural layer is proven by documents from the 18th century. The life of these two economic layers can be read from the organization and architecture of the homesteads.
The ensemble is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code RRI-0362-1975.
