Orebić is a place in the western part of the Pelješac peninsula, in Dubrovnik-Neretva County. It is interesting because its core is a planned fortified settlement from the end of the 15th century, and today it shows layer upon layer from the 15th to the 20th century.
The center was conceived with four parallel streets perpendicular to the shore and with a central and a corner tower. Seafarers of the Orebić family in 1586 rebuilt the castle in the center, from which the settlement takes its name. At the same time, further east along the coast, a second fortified core arose, Fiskovića selo, with a freer and more irregular organization. From the 17th century the settlement grew outside the fortified parts, along the coast, taking over the regular parcelation inherited from the time when the land was divided among the Dubrovnik nobility.
