The Dominican monastery with the church of St. Nicholas is located not far from the urban core of the town of Korčula, on the former Vješala cape, at the end of the road of St. Nicholas, in Dubrovnik-Neretva County. For visitors it is interesting as a sturdy monastic fortress by the sea.
The church and monastery were built at the end of the 15th century, in the period from 1480 to 1507. The monastery was built in stages, strictly enclosed, massive and almost without decoration. The first church had only one nave with loopholes, which made it look like an island church-fortress. In the monastery there is a simple four-sided cloister from the 16th century with a small garden, and to the west is a terraced garden. By the shore a boat shelter with a sheltered small harbor was built in 1656. The church consists of two equal naves without apses, covered with barrel vaults; the second nave was added in 1665 on the east side. There are six altars in total. On the west facade is a Renaissance portal, and on the gable stands a figure of St. Nicholas, the work of a 15th-century master.
The monastery with the church is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-4918.
