The Sustjepan peninsula closes off Cavtat harbor from the south, in the municipality of Konavle in Dubrovnik-Neretva County. Here, along with a walk by the sea, one can see the remains of an ancient building complex tied to the former town of Epidaurum.
Research has established part of a villa, probably suburban, from the 1st century AD, 25 m long and 15 m wide, on three terraces, oriented northeast-southwest. It is preserved mostly in its foundations. Four elongated rows of walls have remained as the basic division despite later reconstructions. Within the complex, remains of baths and a cistern were uncovered, and pottery fragments testify to the production of wine and oil. In the sea below the complex the remains of a landing place can be seen. In the lower zone 13 late antique tombs were found, and among the finds are gold earrings and coins of the emperors Justinian and Justin from the 6th century. According to the name of the place, a church dedicated to St. Stephen probably stood in the area in the early Christian period.
The site is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-5996.
