Bakar Terraced Vineyards (Prezidi) - Takala, Bakar

The Bakar prezidi are terraced vineyards near Bakar in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. Walkers here can see the dry-stone walls with which people interlaced the steep slopes and turned them into vine-growing plots.

According to oral tradition, the present form of the zone began to take shape in the second half of the 18th century, at the instigation of Empress Maria Theresa. Serfs, mostly from Praputnjak, through diligent work turned steep clearings and wastelands into vineyard land. This kind of farming lasted until before the middle of the last century. In 2001 the cultural and educational association Praputnjak began reviving the zone, having received the land for fifteen years of use from the Praputnjak owners, and it was helped by Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and the Town of Bakar.

The zone is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-5290.
