Loron is an archaeological site near Poreč, close to Červar-Porat in Istria County. It is interesting because it shows what a large Roman estate by the sea looked like, in which people not only lived but also produced goods.
These are the remains of a maritime villa rustica that was in use from the 1st to the 5th century. The basic floor plan dates from the time of the emperor Tiberius. As part of the villa there was a kiln for roof tiles, active until the end of the 1st century. On the eastern side of the bay, toward the end of the 1st century, a second production center developed, specialized in ceramics for the needs of the whole Poreč area, and part was probably exported elsewhere until the end of the 2nd century. The southern part of the villa did not change significantly in the 2nd and 3rd centuries, apart from alterations to the kilns and cisterns. In the 4th century the villa was adapted and received a heated living section, while production took place in an oil mill from the 2nd century in the northern part.
The site is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-4099.
