Primošten, in Šibenik-Knin County, was once an island, and today is a peninsula with an old core that climbs up to the church with its bell tower. A visitor sees here how the settlement rises in a fan shape down the hillock.
The island was protected by a rampart and a drawbridge from 1564, and in the 19th century it became a peninsula. Under the Turks it was more strongly settled from Bosoljina, and after the danger passed the settlement spread over the mainland and formed Varoš. The picture of the settlement follows the shape of the asymmetrical cone of the island, and the houses rise in a fan to the church. The structure can be read from the typology and position of the houses: in the centre are two-storey houses of wealthier families, in the upper part rural houses, ground-floor or two-storey, built of stone and covered with stone slabs. The houses of the lower, central part have varoš features, mostly two-storey with framed openings and gabled roofs.
The ensemble is a protected cultural property and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-3646.
