Cultivated Landscape of Bucavac, Primošten

Bucavac is a cultivated agrarian landscape three kilometres south of Primošten, in Šibenik-Knin County. It is interesting to a visitor as the handiwork of people who turned stony ground into vineyards, in a rich network like a mosaic.

On about 18 hectares of karst land, cleared and planted in 1947, the method of terracing into small plots stands out. A network of tiny plots was created, locally called vlačice, with fertile red soil, bounded by low dry-stone heaps. The rows of plots are perpendicular to the coast and are called tirade, and arranged side by side they form a rectangular network adapted to the coastline. In the vlačice the autochthonous Croatian grape variety babić is traditionally grown, from which a quality red wine of the same name is made.

A protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-5379.
