In Vlaška Mala cove on the island of Pag, near Novalja in Lika-Senj County, a sunken Roman merchant ship rests at a depth of 24 to 30 metres. For divers and lovers of history it is one of the more important underwater sites of this kind on the Adriatic, because of its preservation, the richness of the finds and its presentation.
Beside the northern cape of the cove about a hundred complete or damaged amphorae of the Lamboglia 2 type were discovered, which carried wine in the 1st century BC. They are firmly fused together and covered with marine deposits. Among them is the lower part of a stone ship's millstone. In the southwestern part two lead stocks of ancient anchors and four ceramic vessels were noted. Under the sand there could be remains of the cargo, equipment, and perhaps also of the wooden structure. After the investigations the site was protected with an iron cage measuring 12x10x2 metres and exhibited at the place of discovery.
A protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-6433.
