Cultural and Historical Ensemble of Pirovac

Pirovac is a coastal settlement in Šibenik-Knin County whose historic core is pressed against the shore in the shape of a semicircle. It is interesting to visitors drawn to the combination of sea, old houses and remains of defence.

The village is surrounded by the sea, and on the north side it is closed off by a defensive rampart. Traces of the wall are still visible on the northern facades of the houses leaning against it, especially in the lower part, where the wall is sloped to suit the Renaissance understanding of defence against new artillery weapons. In the streets the original stone paving is preserved only in places. The dense arrangement of houses by the sea gives the settlement a special character.

The ensemble is a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-2909.
