In the middle of today's Kaštel Štafilić, in the Town of Kaštela in Split-Dalmatia County, stands the Stafileo-Rotondo castle. It is interesting as an example of a Renaissance family fortress, which also had an economic role, in the chain of castles between Split and Trogir.
It was built from 1500 to 1508. The plan is rectangular: on the south side stands the residential wing, and on the north is the courtyard. The castle is surrounded by a defensive wall that once had a crenellated crown, and on the axis of the north wall rises a tall rectangular tower. Excavations in the courtyard and on the ground floor uncovered stone parts of an olive-processing device and the original cobbled floor, about half a metre lower than today's. Parts of a Baroque balcony were also found, thought to have adorned the northern part of the east facade.
The castle is a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-3252.
