In Zagreb's Trešnjevka, between Ozaljska Street, Selska Road and the track of the former Samobor railway, lies the settlement of the First Croatian Savings Bank (Prva hrvatska štedionica). This residential ensemble is interesting to those who follow the development of the city between the two world wars.
Trešnjevka was then settling rapidly, and demand for housing for workers and clerks was great. The settlement arose as a response to the earlier haphazard and poor building. In accordance with the guidelines of the 1933 regulation plan, which envisaged low-rise housing for this area, the First Croatian Savings Bank applied in 1934 for permission to parcel out the land along Selska Road. It also proposed to the city municipality the construction of sewerage, water supply and access roads. The standardised building of the settlement shows the urban concept of the interwar period.
The ensemble is a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-1542.
