On the northern slopes of Zagreb, in the Novaki settlement, lies the ethnological area of Severi. It is a preserved enclave of traditional setting, worth visiting if you want to see village houses on the edge of a modern city.
Novaki is mentioned as an estate of Gradec in the 13th century, and from the 14th century belonged to the Zagreb Chapter. It developed as an agricultural area with orchards and vineyards and mills along the Trnava stream. Two buildings stand out for their value and state of preservation. The house at Severi 8 is a timber ground-floor house with three rooms, built of sawn planks, the oldest house and the best-preserved homestead with original farm buildings. The house at Severi 10 was built in 1938 as a large two-storey house with a masonry ground floor and a wide enclosed wooden porch. The area is marked by vernacular building from the end of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century.
The area is a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-2166.
