Ethnological Area Oporovec Vineyards, Zagreb

The Oporovec Vineyards extend in Zagreb, north of the ancient villages of Oporovec and Novoselec. Both are mentioned in documents as early as the 13th century. A walk over the green hills suits those who want to see how winegrowing fitted into the urban landscape.

The shape of the terrain made it possible to grow vines, and the relief and greenery give the area its particular beauty. The klijeti (vineyard cottages) are lined up along the paths, but do not overshadow the vineyards. Among similar structures on this stretch, an elongated ground-floor klijet stands out. The crucifix at the junction of Oporovečki vinogradi street and its side branch is a recognition sign here and a visual orientation point. The area preserves a valuable heritage of traditional winegrowing architecture.

The area is a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-2167.
