Church of St Jerome, Kukljica

In the Kostanj cove in Kukljica, in Zadar County, stands the small Church of St Jerome, written in the sources as St Jerolim. For a visitor it is interesting as an example of a harmonious little chapel from the time when the Romanesque style was shading into the Gothic.

It is first mentioned in a charter of 1392. It is a small single-nave building with a projecting semicircular apse, built of regularly coursed dressed stone. The apse is covered by a half-dome with stone slabs, and on the facade is a portal with a semicircular lunette made of reused fragments. The triumphal arch is Gothic, pointed in shape. Because of its proportions and stylistic features it belongs to the group of buildings of the transitional Romanesque-Gothic style of the second half of the 14th century.

A protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-2382.
