Kras is a village on the island of Krk, in the municipality of Dobrinj in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, and it preserves the picture of one of the oldest Slavic settlements on the island. It is interesting to visitors attracted by the traditional village landscape.
The area was the destination of the earliest Slavic migrations to Krk. The village certainly arose as early as the 13th century as an original pastoral settlement of the Dobrinj cultural circle, and Dobrinj itself arose before the 11th century. Kras is of the scattered type: separate farming and residential groups were built on arable land, near pastures. The single-storey or ground-floor stone houses have gabled roofs with channel tiles, and a typical detail is the staircase over the vault of the konoba leading to the upper floor. Among the farm buildings are mošune and threshing floors, and the surroundings consist of paths bounded by dry-stone walls.
The zone is a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code RRI-0341-1973.
