Cultural and Historical Ensemble of Kaprije

Kaprije is a settlement on the island of the same name, in the City of Šibenik, in Šibenik-Knin County. The village climbs a hillock above the main cove and harbour, and so it is interesting to lovers of peaceful island places.

The old settlement sits on a hillock above the harbour, and during the 20th century a new part arose right by the harbour. The place is rural in character and has no regular street network. Buildings are grouped around a widening of the street that runs through the middle of the settlement and thus forms the shape of a square. The original spatial structure has been preserved, along with the basic dimensions and views of most buildings. The setting is nevertheless spoiled by new construction, not only through the form of the buildings but also through the unplanned occupation of former garden plots.

The ensemble is a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-3421.
