On a natural rise at the northern edge of the settlement of Poličnik, in Zadar County, the remains of an old fortress lie hidden. For the most part they are overgrown with a dense little wood, so the walk up to them has a slightly adventurous feel. Historical records name the place as Polisane or Polešnik, and at one time it was an important fortress of northern Dalmatia.
The remains consist of a network of walls with the remains of a tower with a five-sided plan. The contract for building the fortress, concluded on 12 June 1508, is kept in the Historical Archives in Zadar. The fortress was built on the estate of the Pećar family of Zadar so that peasants and livestock could take shelter in it from the Turks. Older writers describe it as a quadrangular building with strong walls about 50 metres long on the front and with two round towers, beside each of which stood two identical ramparts.
The remains are a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-6125.
