Sveti Anton is a village on the island of Krk, in the municipality of Malinska-Dubašnica, in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. It gives visitors an insight into the traditional way of life: the settlement is not compact but consists of several small hamlets spread around path crossings and beside sinkholes (vrtače) with fertile soil.
Through the past centuries, since the 17th century, the fragmented structure, the arable land and the division of land by dry-stone walls have been preserved. Stables, farm buildings and several threshing floors still stand beside the houses today. The houses are single- or two-storey buildings with a rectangular plan, simple facades and a gabled roof of channel tiles. Special features are the skodi, outside stone staircases and vaulted terraces. On the ground floor is the konoba, and the upper floor was the living space. Openings are framed with stone ertas, the doors are of solid wood, and the narrow two-leaved windows were closed with shutters or louvres. The centre of the house was the open hearth, the komin, sometimes with a bread oven and separated off by a tornica. The Chapel of St Anthony from about 1660, with a public cistern, was formerly the centre of local life.
