The underwater site lies in the very harbour of Baška Voda, in Split-Dalmatia County, between the old pier and the eastern breakwater. It is interesting because, looking down towards the seabed, one can sense how ships once moored here in the distant past.
In August 2002, at a depth of 4 to 5 metres, fragments of ancient amphorae and other pottery were found, dated to the period from the 2nd to the 6th century. The find is densest over an area of about 20 m2. The following month four more prehistoric stones, 20 cm long, were discovered, and remains of a wooden structure of as yet unknown purpose were also noticed, namely two parallel beams 40 cm wide. Some fifty metres to the northwest lie the remains of an ancient settlement at the Gradina location, so this is probably its harbour, one of the few in the southern Adriatic used continuously from prehistory to late antiquity.
The site is a protected cultural property and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-6501.
Data: Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia (Ministry of Culture and Media), Open Licence; coordinates: DGU (centre of the settlement).
