Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, Zagvozd

The church of Velika Gospa is the old parish church of Zagvozd in the hinterland of Makarska. It is modest, but valuable as part of the history of the place, and interesting to visitors who want to get to know the stone sacred heritage of the Dalmatian hinterland.

It was built in the first half of the 17th century as a single-nave church with a rectangular ground plan and a shallow square apse, extending from east to west. In the 18th century a late Baroque bell gable was added to the façade. The cemetery around the church was enclosed with a stone wall in 1923. Inside are two altars from the Rako workshop in Imotski.

The church is a protected cultural good and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-3847.
