Remains of the Roman Aqueduct in the Lonići Area, Bibinje

In the western part of Bibinje, in the Lonići area, can be seen the remains of the Roman water supply that once served Zadar, then called Iader. Bibinje lies in Zadar County, and this route attracts those interested in ancient engineering.

The whole aqueduct, which carried water from Vrana, called Biba in antiquity, extended over more than 40 kilometres, precisely 40,350 metres. This complex undertaking is believed to have been carried out at the end of the 1st or the beginning of the 2nd century, during the reign of Emperor Trajan. The section in Bibinje is about 560 metres long. Wherever it is not covered by newer stones and embankment, one can see how the route is preserved: in places only a few centimetres above the ground, and in places up to about a metre and a half in height, with a width of up to about 1.45 metres.

The remains of the aqueduct are a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-6189.
