In the village of Vrsi, not far from Nin in Zadar County, lie the ruins of the medieval Church of St Lawrence. Visitors exploring the northern Dalmatian coast and its hinterland will find here a simple but clearly legible example of 13th-century sacred architecture.
The church was built in the 13th century and is now in a ruined state, though the walls rise on average to about two and a half metres. The building has a single nave and is laid out in a northeast-southwest direction, with a semicircular apse projecting at the east. It is built of regularly shaped ashlar blocks laid in neat courses. The east side wall is about 8.8 metres long, and the west wall somewhat less, at 8.57 metres. The outer width is approximately 5.75 metres, while the inner width increases from 4.3 metres at the facade to 4.53 metres at the apse. The inner length of the nave without the apse is about 9.2 metres, and the walls are about 70 centimetres thick.
The remains are a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-4537.
