Archaeological Zone Za Zidine-Mirine, Šilo

Šilo is a place on the island of Krk, in the municipality of Dobrinj in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, and near it lies the archaeological zone Za Zidine-Mirine. It is of interest to those who enjoy walks by the sea and traces of distant times, because the remains show how this part of the coast was watched over in the 6th century.

These are the remains of a smaller fortress from the time of Emperor Justinian, built in the middle of the 6th century on an embankment that already existed there in prehistory. One longer defensive wall has survived, running from east to west, and at its western end a triangular spur can be seen. Pieces of collapsed wall lie across the whole surface of the embankment. Given the shape of the terrain, it is reasonable to assume that similar remains and movable finds also lie hidden under the sea in the Murvenica cove.

The zone is a protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-2723.
