Not far from the village of Petrčane, in the area of the City of Zadar in Zadar County, stand the ruined remains of the Church of St Bartholomew. Locals call it Kulina, and it is interesting because it was a house of worship that also served as a fortress, a fairly rare combination in Romanesque architecture.
The church had a simple rectangular ground plan with a single nave, joined on the east side by a shallow, projecting semicircular apse. A half-dome rose over the apse and a barrel vault over the nave. Against the facade, alongside the nave, stood a strong, almost square bell tower. Its ground floor and first floor have narrow arrow slits, while the second floor has small windows of Romanesque form. The portal is also Romanesque, finished with a sickle-shaped arch. The building is linked to the period from the 11th to the 19th century.
A protected cultural property, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-1199.
