The building of the former Hotel Bijela kuća in Bol stands by the coast, between the Bol harbour and the Glavica peninsula. It is important because it is a rare example of functionalism on our coast.
It was designed by the architect Lavoslav Horvat, and was built from 1934 to 1936 as the building of the Dominican grammar school. It carries the spirit of the functionalism advocated by Drago Ibler with the "Zemlja" group, so this elongated two-storey stone building is an important work of Croatian modern architecture. During the Italian occupation the only secondary school in the Croatian language in central Dalmatia operated in it. On 27 November 1943 the first regional conference of USAOH for Dalmatia was held here. After 1963 it was converted into a hotel, and today it stands neglected.
The building is a protected cultural good and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-4065.
