In the very heart of the village of Marina, in Split-Dalmatia County, stand the remains of the defensive Citadel and, beside it, the church of St John the Baptist. Together they form an interesting combination of military and sacred building from the 16th century.
The Citadel was built around 1500 by the bishop of Trogir Frane Marcello, as a stone edifice with a rectangular ground plan. A drawbridge connected it with the tower, so both parts formed a single defence. The church is single-nave, also rectangular, with a square apse, a pointed vault and a roof of curved pantiles. It is built of semi-worked stone in rows and plastered inside. The façade later acquired a Baroque appearance, a bell gable with a bell and a town clock. Attached to the south wall is a Renaissance chapel that was used as a baptistery.
The complex is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-4900.
