The island of Arhanđel lies off the coast near Vinišće, in the municipality of Marina, in Split-Dalmatia County. On it are the remains of the medieval Church of St Michael the Archangel, so here the archaeological site is set in a very peaceful island environment.
In the Middle Ages the island was the estate and church of the Trogir Benedictine abbey of St John. The church is oriented east–west and was built in the Romanesque style of roughly dressed stone in abundant mortar. It had a rectangular plan, a semicircular apse and a bell tower on the western façade. The walls today are collapsed almost to the ground, and the south wall with massive buttresses is preserved to the height of the window. North-west of the church is the remainder of a wall that probably enclosed the complex of the Benedictine hospice. It is assumed that the church and its associated complex already existed in the 12th century.
The site is a protected cultural property and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-4320.
