The archaeological site with the remains of the Church of St Peter at Sumpetar is located in the village of Poljica, in the municipality of Marina in Split-Dalmatia County. The site lies in the western part of the Marina Bay, in the area of the Trogir Poljica, right beside the former Adriatic Highway, so it is easy to spot for those travelling along the coast.
The church was built in the 11th century on the estate of the Trogir Benedictine nuns. It was a longitudinal single-nave building with a rectangular apse, oriented in an east–west direction. Today its walls remain in a ruined state: the northern side wall is best preserved, about three metres high, while the southern side wall reaches only about 80 centimetres. Such remains make it possible to imagine the form of an early medieval village church and the role of monastic estates in the surroundings of Trogir.
The site is a protected cultural property and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-4063. It belongs to the archaeological heritage.
