The Blaca Hermitage is hidden in a cove far from the sea, beneath the Ljubitovica cave. It is one of the most interesting places for visitors because it preserves a whole world of hermits and scientists.
The community was founded in the middle of the 16th century by Poljica Glagolitic priests. A row of stone two-storey buildings with a church was renovated in the 18th and 19th centuries, and has been preserved with its complete civil interior, rich inventory, astronomical instruments, printing press, archive and library. Beside the residential part there remain farm buildings, an apiary, cattle enclosures and various tools. For all this reason Blaca is in Croatia a unique combination of a monument of culture and of nature.
The hermitage is a protected cultural good and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-1553.
