The church of St Lawrence in Vrboska, on the island of Hvar, is a witness to the turbulent centuries when coastal settlements suffered attacks. Today it is an enlarged Baroque church with a spacious interior.
Originally a single-nave church was built at the end of the 15th century, but it was burned by the Venetians in 1512, and then by the Turks during the siege of Vrboska in 1571. It was rebuilt and enlarged from 1572 to 1576 in the Baroque style, with side aisles added; the space is divided by square pillars with semicircular arches. On the west façade, beside the main portal, two smaller ones open, with rosettes above. Above the entrance is a rosette, and over it a carved three-part bell gable. The apse in the east is square, the sacristy is in the southeast corner, and on the south façade are a door, a niche with a well and the entrance to the choir.
The church is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-4942.
