The church of St George in Tučepi stands right by the sea, on the foundations of an older cult building. It is regarded as an exceptional monument of medieval building in Dalmatia, and for a visitor it is a short break from the beach.
It was built at the end of the 12th century over an early Christian building, perhaps a memoria, and was renovated in the 14th century. It has a semicircular apse and a pointed vault that replaced an earlier barrel vault. On the west side is a shallow porch, and the door frame is made up of ancient spolia. The interior is divided into three bays, the middle one narrower, so it is assumed that it originally had a dome. Two Corinthian capitals are built in, and on the walls are consecration crosses in fresco technique from the 14th century. The church was thoroughly investigated and restored in 1993.
The church is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-5312.
