Hotel "Palace", Kaštel Stari

Hotel "Palace" stands in Kaštel Stari, in an area called Štalije, in the middle of a park reached by an avenue of cypresses. It is interesting as a witness to the development of tourism on this part of the coast in the interwar period. The place belongs to the town of Kaštela in Split-Dalmatia County.

The hotel opened in 1928 and was originally a two-storey building with a prominent east wing and a recessed west wing. A monumental staircase with a balustrade led to the central entrance on the south façade. Guests had at their disposal an electric power plant, a dance terrace, a tennis court and a bowling alley. The west wing, symmetrical to the east, was added in 1947. The entire estate is enclosed by a stone wall, and the southern entrance to the park is emphasised by hewn pillars with profiled finials and Secession ornament.

The hotel with its garden is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-2902.
