The church of St Nicholas in Kaštel Stari stands on the northern edge of the Kaštela field. It is a modest building, but an interesting story is connected with it about an older church and a medieval inscription.
It is a single-nave building with a rectangular ground plan and a rectangular apse, oriented from east to west. It is built of regularly hewn blocks. Construction began at the end of the 19th century, after a pre-Romanesque church was demolished, whose traces were revealed by recent archaeological research. The west façade has a simple portal, with narrow rectangular windows with semicircular tops beside it. Above the door is a rosette, then a shallow niche with pilasters carrying an arch, and at the top a bell gable. Above the door of the south façade a copy of the inscription of the tepčija Ljubimir from the 11th century has been placed.
The church is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-3395.
