Stone Bridge, Ložišća

Between the fields of the village of Ložišća and the cove of Vičja luka on Brač stretches a deep valley through which torrential streams once flowed. A stone bridge from the 19th century leads across it, of interest to all who love technical heritage and old stone structures. It is located in the municipality of Milna, in Split-Dalmatia County.

The bridge has a single arch and rounded buttresses. A storm brought it down in 1897, but it was soon rebuilt, as attested by a memorial plaque above the arch. It is regarded as a rare technical solution and as evidence of 19th-century engineering skill on the island, since it had to withstand surges of water in heavy rains.

The bridge is a protected cultural good and is entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-1871.
