In the medieval core of Split, in Split-Dalmatia County, at the address Šubićeva 2, stands the Tartaglia Palace. For those strolling through the old part of the city it is interesting as an example of a Baroque noble residence and as a witness to the life of one of the oldest Split families.
The palace dates from the 18th century. The building has three floors, and the main façade has seven axes, the central one emphasised by balconies. The builders combined in it several older houses that stood north of the Milesi Palace. The models were Venetian Baroque palaces in which rooms are arranged around a centre, but local masters shaped this solution in their own way. The rooms gather around an inner courtyard, and from the main door an atrium leads to it, reaching the height of the ground floor and mezzanine. In 1873 the patriotic society "Slavjanski napredak" operated in the hall on the first floor. At the end of the 18th century the Tartaglia family moved outside the narrower city core, and the court moved into the palace.
The Tartaglia Palace is a protected cultural good, entered in the Register of Cultural Goods of the Republic of Croatia under the code Z-5769.
